Lesson 1 – Welcome to the CUPEverse

[[[Grand opening video. mark and Candace?]]]

The CUPEverse is everything CUPE from coast to coast to coast

It’s 700,000 members who work in health care, school boards, municipalities, airlines, transportation and more.

It’s the 2200# locals representing workers in small towns, big cities and rural communities.

It’s elected leadership, rank and file membership and paid staff.

It’s skills and experience and motivation.

It’s the everyday work of your local, it’s our National Convention every two years, and everything in-between.

It’s a movement, an organization and a collective asssertion of our rights as workers.

In this lesson, we explore questions about CUPE on the macro level:

  1. What does it mean to be a member among 700,000 others?
  2. What role does CUPE play in the workplace, community and world?
  3. How does CUPE fight for respect, inclusion and justice?
  4. How does CUPE fit into the wider labour movement, both nationally and globally?
