Welcome!

In Session 1, you will prepare for our first Zoom session on September 22.

To do this, complete the following steps:

Step 1: Read about the role of the member facilitator
Step 2: Read the Policy for Certification and Ongoing Development of Member Facilitators
Step 3: Watch a Zoom tutorial on “How to use annotation”

Step 1: Read about the role of the member facilitator:

Your role as a member facilitator

A strong facilitator is:

Able to listen to others and speak well
Open to many points of view
Able to create inviting learning environments
Able to deal with difficult situations
Self-motivated and eager to learn by exposing themselves as learners
Respectful of others’ knowledge and experience
Able to help develop workers’ capacity to challenge inequitable power relations in their workplaces and communities
Able to shine an equity lens on all activities, member integrating an analysis of class, race and gender
Committed to trade union values like democracy, equality, and social justice

A CUPE member facilitator:

Represents CUPE to our members
Plays a vital role in building a stronger union
Is held to a higher standard of behaviour inside and outside the workshop
Practices and encourages union activism
Always treats others as family
Takes action against discrimination or harassment

Step 2: Read the policy

The Policy for Certification and Ongoing Development of Member Facilitators was adopted by the National Executive Board in 2004, and has provided a strong foundation for the recruitment, selection, training and support of member facilitators.

You’re all set for the first Zoom session on September 22 at 1:00 PM Eastern. Doors open at 12:30 PM.

Zoom details

The Zoom link is the same link for all five sessions. The meeting is booked for 12:30 PM to allow for tech checks and for the participants and the facilitators to meet up just before the session.
